About Me
Hi! My name is Sam Holleran, and I am a 2B Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. I am passionate about solving problems, helping others, and thinking creatively. Over the past two years, I have completed three academic terms and three co-op work terms.
My first co-op was at Kruger Products, where I was a Reliability Engineering Intern. Over my four months there, I was fortunate enough to be able to watch, understand and appreciate how many aspects of a design need to coincide and overlap for a functional end product.
My second co-op was at Martinrea, where I was a Manufacturing Engineering Intern. My biggest takeaway from this experience was the importance of designing for manufacturability. Working with toolmakers demonstrated how much more efficient and cost-effective it can be to produce parts that are designed with manufacturing considerations in mind.
My third and most recent co-op was at ATS, where I worked as a Mechanical Designer on the Applications team. During my time at ATS, I gained an appreciation for how much thought and foresight are involved in the planning of a large-scale design. Experiencing the ideation process from an Applications perspective was particularly valuable.
Aside from engineering, I have always had a passion for sports. Whether I am playing or watching, I'm always excited. Much of my youth consisted of playing competitive hockey and soccer, having to deal with upwards of 15-hour commitments to each on top of school; however, I have gotten more into golf as I have gotten older.
